Family of Turlock Coach Jonathan Williams Reaches Settlement in Wrongful Death Case

The family of beloved Turlock High assistant basketball coach Jonathan Williams has reached a settlement in their wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a fatal three-vehicle collision in December 2023. Attorney Adam Stewart of Moorad Clark & Stewart represented the Williams family throughout the case.

Jonathan Williams, 48, was a fixture in the Turlock basketball community. He was involved in youth camps and had served as the longtime assistant for Turlock’s boys’ varsity basketball program under head coach Doug Cornfoot. Williams was heading to a basketball tournament at Pitman High School when the collision occurred on West Christoffersen Parkway near Kilroy Road.

The Collision

According to the Turlock Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team, the other driver was traveling at approximately 98 miles per hour and accelerated in the seconds before impact, striking the Dodge Journey at an estimated 60 mph. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, among other offenses, and was sentenced to probation in juvenile court.

The lawsuit, filed in April 2024, named the driver and his father as defendants. The Williams family — including his wife Belinda, and children Jaydon, Jamison, Jordan, Jonathan Jr., and Shea Glasgow — sought damages for hospital and medical expenses, negligent infliction of emotional distress, loss of wages, grief, and other compensatory damages.

Resolution and Justice for the Williams Family

The case has been settled out of court, with the settlement amount remaining confidential. Speaking on the resolution, Adam Stewart noted that “all interested parties stepped up and did the right thing here,” adding that the family is “pleased to have put this behind them.”

While no legal outcome can undo the loss of a loved one, holding negligent parties accountable is an essential step toward justice and closure. Cases involving reckless driving and wrongful death demand thorough investigation, aggressive representation, and a deep commitment to the families affected.
